1. 🔧 Server (Hosting)

Verify the version of PHP (recommended: 8.1 or higher, depending on theme/plugin compatibility).
Check the available disk space.
Verify use of RAM and CPU (in case of bottlenecks).
Make sure you have configured a Valid SSL and force HTTPS.
Activate or check the server-wide cache (OPcache, Varnish, etc. if available).
Verify the configuration of cron jobs system and WordPress (wp-cron.php).

2. 🔄 Upgrades and General Maintenance

Upgrade WordPress to the latest stable version.
Update all plugins and themes.
Remove unused plugins and themes.
Verify that there are no abandoned plugins (last updated more than 1 year ago).
Check the error logs (error_log) for PHP bugs or warnings.
Performs a full backup before touching anything.
Verify that file and folder permissions are correct (644 for files, 755 for folders).

3. 🔒 Security

Check users with admin access, remove or lower privileges if they are not necessary.
Install a security plugin (Wordfence, iThemes Security, etc.).
Activate the reCAPTCHA in forms login and contact information.
Secure the wp-config.php file and disable the file editor from the admin.
Change table prefix in database if it is still wp_.
Use two-factor authentication (2FA) for administrators.
Disable XML-RPC if it is not used.

Use a plugin from cache (e.g. WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, LiteSpeed Cache).
Optimize images with plugins such as Smush, Imagify o ShortPixel.
Check the use of external fonts, icons, scripts that affect speed.
Activate lazy load for images and videos.
Check loading time with tools such as PageSpeed Insights, GTMetrix, Pingdom.
Optimize the database (check orphaned tables, post revisions, expired transients).
Activate prefetching and preload to improve the mobile experience.

5. 📱 Web Accessibility and Usability

Verify compatibility and good visualization in mobile devices.
Try keyboard navigation (important for accessibility).
Make sure there is good color contrast in text.
Test user flows (registration, purchase, contact) as if you were a customer.
Adds/disables pop-ups or advertisements that disturb the navigation.

6. 📈 Basic SEO and Configuration

Check that an SEO plugin is properly configured (ex. Yoast, Rank Math).
Make sure that every important page has title and description goal.
Generates and sends the sitemap.xml to Google Search Console.
Check for tracking errors or coverage problems in GSC.
Add alt tags to all relevant images.
Configure 301 redirects correctly if there were changes of URLs.

Consider using CDN (Cloudflare, BunnyCDN).

Do monthly speed tests to compare improvements.
